I never allow the use of violence for whatever reason.

Before noon on the 8th, during an election speech in Nara Prefecture, former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe was hit by an ammunition and was confirmed dead shortly after 5 o’clock in the evening. I never evaluated his political attitude or the exercise of power. However, the unacceptable act of violence in the slaughter of speech cannot be admitted. In the daytime, the fact that such barbaric acts were exposed to the public eye cast a great shadow on the current state of democracy and further progress in this society.

　「民主主義への挑戦」という批判が噴出しています。「今の日本で、こんなことが」という驚きも多くのところで表明されています。民主主義はいつだって未完成であり、完成への途上（道半ば）であることを忘れたくない。凶刃や凶弾、そのれがもたらす暴力は社会の「現実」を貫いて、未来にも大きな打撃を与えます。しかし、先駆者・指導者が倒れてもなお、後に続くものが絶えることなく存在してきたし、これからもそれは疑えない「歴史の真実」でもあります。一歩前進ということが言えるのは、一歩後退があってこその軌跡でもあるでしょう。いかなる暴力も断じて容認できないという、ぼくたちの覚悟のほどが、この社会の、ひいては他の社会の先行きを、明るく照らすことになります。たじろがず、ひるまず、一歩一歩、前に向かって歩いていきたい、犠牲になられた方々の無念や遺された言葉を胸に。
